About us

IKAZE-Welcome to a Rwandan based sustainable tourism hub that opened in 2018. The name "Imuhira" means "at home". Imuhira campsite is locally managed on the shores of Lake Kivu, 3 to 4 km from the Nyamasheke district headquarters on the main road Karongi-Rusizi, 2,5 hours drive from Karongi, 5hours drive from Kigali and 18 km to /from Nyungwe National Park's southwestern edge/Gisakura Office. This has been a relaxing and entertaining destination since 2018, offering Kagano landscapes and cultural immersion in the lake's breeze. This is the most practical spot for tent and camping cars, cottages, and homestay accommodations on budget for safari travelers, hikers, researchers, Kayakers, bikers, birdwatchers and other adventurists through different community-based activities.

We offer rooms, cottages and homestays accommodation and organize different community-based activities. The site allows you to experience Rwanda’s remarkable countryside while staying ‘off the beaten track’, with easy access to the popular Kivu belt and a base to the Congo-Nile trail. Located 25 Km to the former Richard Kandt’s camp/Shangi House.

Visitors are given opportunities to make a positive social impact in the community of a very rich culture. We have a track record of successful giveback initiatives, travel-for-a cause events, local community exposure, permaculture and conservation projects, dance and art sessions, etc. Connect with us today for a booking, a partnership or volunteering proposal and use responsible tourism to impact the community.

The campsite is closer to an inter-district port and therefore a stopover for people on kayaks, travelers of the Congo-Nile trails, and the Kivu Belt, in general. We are accessible for people using the main road or water from Karongi and Kamembe. Guests might use different means of transport (including a boda-boda or a motorbike) to reach Nyungwe National Park for tourism activities within the park.

Our ecotourism pillars>>>Environment conservation: We advocate for the restoration of fauna and flora, tree planting, waste management, permaculture practices, etc. K50Inspilab hosts annual workshops for children and young conservationists (July and November). Cultural Heritage Management: We own RWEMYE cultural Dance Toop, whose members are from our community.
